What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese word meaning ‘Universal Life Energy’ (Rei – universal, Ki – energy). This is the natural energy that is around and within each of us. It is the energy that enlivens and animates matter.

Emma's natural ability to create a peaceful, nurturing environment is a gift, and her energy comes from a place of genuine care and spiritual wisdom. I have felt uplifted, calm and cared for.

- M. Singleton

Reiki originated in early 20th century Japan, developed by Mikao Usui as a holistic healing approach that blends spiritual practice with energy work. At its core, Reiki is based on the belief in a universal life force energy that flows through all living beings. Practitioners understand that when this energy becomes blocked or depleted, individuals may experience physical, emotional, and mental challenges.

During a typical Reiki session, clients remain fully clothed while lying on a treatment table. The practitioner uses gentle, non-invasive touch, placing hands lightly on or just above different body areas. Most people report experiencing deep relaxation, warmth, or subtle energy sensations. Sessions typically last between 45 to 90 minutes and aim to restore natural balance and promote the body's innate healing mechanisms.

People seek Reiki for a wide range of conditions, including stress reduction, anxiety management, pain relief, and emotional healing. It's increasingly used as a complementary therapy, supporting traditional medical treatments and offering holistic wellness support. While not a replacement for medical care, Reiki can provide significant relief and support for individuals dealing with various health challenges.

Scientific research into Reiki is ongoing, with preliminary studies suggesting potential benefits in stress reduction, pain management, and overall relaxation. Some medical facilities now incorporate Reiki as a complementary treatment, recognizing its potential to support patient well-being.

Learning Reiki involves a structured process of classes and attunements with a Reiki Master. Practitioners progress through different levels of training, from initial introduction to advanced mastery. Each level deepens the practitioner's understanding and ability to channel healing energy.

Importantly, Reiki is not a religion but a spiritual practice accessible to everyone, regardless of belief system or background. It works on the principle that healing energy can be channeled to support an individual's physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Q: How does Reiki actually work?

A: Reiki is channeled from the Reiki source through the practitioner. The receiver takes what they need from the Reiki energy. It will be different at every session and dependent on what you need.

Q: What happens during a Reiki session?

A: Most people describe it as a wonderful, warm glowing sensation. Practitioners use gentle touch to help energy flow through your body, treating you as a whole - body, emotions, mind, and spirit.

Q: Is Reiki a religion?

A: No. It's spiritual but has no specific religious dogma. You don't need to believe in anything special - it works whether you're skeptical or not.

Q: Can anyone learn Reiki?

A: Absolutely! It doesn't depend on your intellectual capacity or spiritual background. From kids to grandparents, anyone can learn and benefit from Reiki.

Q: Is there any scientific basis?

A: Yes. Research has shown that practitioners of Reiki emit electromagnetic frequencies during Reiki treatments. For more information on the research please contact the Reiki Federation.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese energy healing technique that promotes natural healing and deep relaxation. Reiki works by channeling universal life energy through a practitioner to support your body's natural healing processes. During a session, the Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit, gently placing hands on or near your body to facilitate the flow of healing energy. This energy moves beyond physical boundaries, addressing imbalances in your body's energy system that might be causing stress, pain, or emotional blockages. Unlike massage or physical therapy, Reiki is non-invasive and works on subtle energy levels, helping to clear energetic pathways, reduce stress, and promote a state of deep relaxation. The energy intuitively moves to where it's most needed, supporting your body's innate ability to heal itself.

How can Reiki help me?

Reiki offers a gentle, holistic approach to healing that addresses your entire being - not just physical symptoms, but emotional, mental, and spiritual wellbeing. Whether you're struggling with chronic stress, battling anxiety, recovering from illness, or simply feeling out of balance, Reiki provides a nurturing pathway to restoration. By harmonizing your body's natural energy flow, Reiki can help reduce pain, promote deep relaxation, support your immune system, and create a sense of profound inner peace.

Many clients report feeling lighter, more centered, and better equipped to handle life's challenges after a session. It's particularly beneficial for those experiencing burnout, emotional blockages, sleep difficulties, or seeking complementary support alongside medical treatments. Reiki doesn't just treat symptoms; it supports your body's innate ability to heal, helping you reconnect with your natural state of balance and vitality.
